My Game changing moment was on the day before my 15th birthday, being a life long Queen fan; one of my birthday presents was to go and see Queen + Paul Rodgers live in concert. The gig at the Cardiff International Arena fell on the day before my birthday. I have been drumming since I was 7 and one of my lifelong dreams was to catch one of Roger Taylor's drumsticks I came armed with a banner saying 'Roger Throw Me Your Drumsticks, Its My Birthday Tomorrow' Which I held up for most of the show; stood right in the front row! With aching arms and a sore throat the moment finally happened, the band had just played Bohemian Rhapsody they started to walk off stage and Roger spotted me came over and threw out 2 of his Vic firth T1 mallets that he uses for the Cymbal Fills at the end of Bohemian Rhapsody, I only caught one but I'd actually got one of Rogers drumsticks! I was thrilled I couldn't get over that I was in the possession of one of my drumming heroes sticks! Surprisingly an even better moment was yet to come! The band came back on for an encore and played a few more songs! They finished and took a bow but Roger did not throw his sticks out to the crowd, which I thought was a bit odd, as the arena lights went up me and my father stayed around for a bit looking for that other Vic Firth T1 mallet that I hadn't managed to catch earlier in the night, suddenly Rogers Drum-Tech jumped off stage and shouted 'who was the guy with the banner'? I quickly replied that it was me, he then handed me the sticks that Roger hadn't thrown into the crowd at the end of the show and stated that Roger wished me a Happy Birthday, shocked and in awe I was now in possession of a pair of Custom Vic Firth Sticks that he had used with his signature printed on them, this will remain one of the greatest moments of my life! and will continue to remind me that anything is possible and dreams do come true inspiring me to chase any dream I have in life!
