Anders Astrand

As a mallet specialist, Åstrand regularly performs and gives clinics throughout the US, Latin America, Australia, and Europe. With his percussion ensemble, Global Percussion Network, he has toured extensively in Sweden, Europe, the USA and South Korea.

Åstrand focuses on melodic and rhythmical improvisation, an essential feature also in his compositions. Åstrand has been commissioned to compose for brass quintets, saxophone quartet, choirs, and big band. A more spectacular side features compositions for ice instruments to be performed by percussion ensemble (one of the concerts also featured fighter aircraft as instruments), tractors, and an entire building being inaugurated. Åstrand has also composed music for multimedia performances including dance, video projections, ice instruments, and fire sculptures.

Anders’ new signature mallets are designed to capture his classic sound (orange) and to explore bold new sonic spaces (blue)

Anders-Orange-Series

Orange Series

Inspired by string quartets, brass quintets and vocal choirs, the individual mallets in this series share a common sound color that allows their individual voices to speak beautifully together. While they are a great choice for solo playing, the Orange series are exceptional mallets for keyboard ensemble settings, where instruments must blend.
Anders-Blue-Series

Blue Series

Designed to support the soloist as well as the percussionist playing in an ensemble setting, the Blue series is a bit heavier, producing rich sounds with great projection. Added weight allows the mallets to speak clearly without the player needing to do all of the work.
