How to Send your Digital Artwork:
• Total print area of file should be 3” x .5” (1800 x 300 pixels) at 600 dpi.
• Artwork should be black with white (or transparent) background. The pad stamper does not allow for grey shading.
• We can accept most graphic file types. We prefer vector file types (PDF, AI or EPS) because it provides the best quality print, but we can also work with TIF, PNG, GIF or JPG formats. If your image is below 600dpi, please do not simply increase the resolution. This will result in a very blurry, pixelated image.
RASTER vs VECTOR IMAGES
If working in Illustrator or other graphic programs, you should convert your text to outlines prior to sending the file. This ensures that your font does not get substituted and we will be able to keep your artwork exactly as you submit it.
In Illustrator, click the “Type” menu and select “Create Outlines”. You may also select the artwork and press Ctrl + Shift + O.
Web Images, Copyright restrictions & Inappropriate Content
When images are taken from a Google image search or a website, they are typically 72dpi. This resolution is not high enough for printing purposes. You may also run into copyright restrictions when using web images and therefore we do not recommend using these in your artwork. The only exception would be if the image was purchased from a stock photo website at a large resolution. Vic Firth reserves the right to refuse any artwork that contains explicit language or content.
Type or graphics that are very small, overly detailed and have thin lines may not print as expected because of the pad stamp resolution. Here is an example of an image that may not print well on a stick:
Outline fonts and type that is smaller than 6 pixels will have similar problems. While it might look readable on your screen, the resolution of the pad stamper isn’t as high and might result in muddy images:
All images must be BLACK on a white or transparent background. Not grey shading is possible. Also, artwork that is “punched out” or white on a black background cannot be accepted:
Using fonts with a large “x-height” on capital letters (the horizontal size) may limit the readability of the lower case letters from farther away:
Selecting a font that has a good balance of “X to Y” height – and has a strong/bold weight will produce the clearest, most readable logo. If you want your fans to see your name from far away, a font or handwritting such as this would be best!
For best possible results, we recommend that you download and create your artwork using these layered template files. If you have a problem working with these files, you may submit your own artwork in another graphics format (.tif, .jpg, .png, or .gif) – as long as the size is 3” x .5” (1800 x 300 pixels) at 600 dpi.
