The Vic Firth Company is proud to be among the most educationally conscientious companies in the music industry. For over 50 years, Vic himself was a leader in percussion education. He became a Department Head at the New England Conservatory soon after he graduated from there with high honors in 1952. Since becoming solo timpanist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1952, Vic performed with such prestigious groups as the Boston Pops, Boston Ballet, Boston Opera Company and the Saito Kinen Orchestra in Japan. In addition, Vic performed on over 400 recordings. He also penned 17 compositions which have become standards in the high school and collegiate repertoire, and eight method books which are international standards for instruction and performance, as well as for audition, solo and ensemble festival material.
At the same time, Vic Firth Company has collaborated with some of the top educational minds around the globe to support percussion education. As we witness the growth of percussion education, we are encouraged to further develop and diversify our already highly successful program. Started in 1997 as a means to foster dialogue between percussion educators of all levels and strengths, the Vic Firth Education Team remains the industry’s innovating force in providing resources to percussion educators. As we witness the growth of percussion education, we are encouraged to further develop and diversify our already highly successful program.
