Mark Wessels' Rudimental Technique
     Exercise #7: 16th Note Timing

This exercise works on 4 common 16th note rhythm patterns, as well as a "right-hand lead" system of sticking. Start with alternating 16th notes in the 1st measure (called the "check pattern") and follow with the first rhythm pattern. Watch the sticking very carefully.

Practice with a metronome to make sure that you are placing each stroke exactly in tempo! Listen to the sound that you're getting from each stroke to maintain consistency throughout. For intermediate players, try practicing this "off the left" (starting with the left hand and playing the opposite sticking throughout), as well as eliminating the check between each rhythm pattern. Advanced players might try alternating the sticking - as well as coming up with other sticking patterns which use creative right and left combinations!
