Antonio Santangelo

Antonio Santangelo graduated in piano and percussion instruments. His technical and musical preparation allowed him to be esteemed, appreciated and famous for his high technical control on all percussion instruments and for the high level of preparation of his students. He has recorded for the publishing houses R.C.A., EDIPAN and NUOVA ERA, with illustrious musicians. He boasts the first absolute performances of compositions by different authors such as: Rota, Togni, Bussotti, Sciarrino, Clementi, Donatoni, Pennisi, Manzoni, Maderna, Procaccini, Nono. Since 1974 he has started an intense collaboration as tympanist and percussionist with prestigious Italian theaters and with the RAI Orchestra of Turin and Naples. He has also collaborated with the RAI Orchestra of Rome as drummer and percussionist. He won the National Competition organized by the RAI "Giovani Interpreti recording for RAI UNO the first performance in Italy of the "Concertino" by T. Mayuzumi (for xylophone and orchestra) with the RAI Symphony Orchestra of Turin. From 1987 to today, he is dedicated to the organization of competitions and festivals dedicated to percussion. The "Italy Percussion Competition" and the "Days of Percussion" are famous all over the world. For this dedication and importance of his initiatives, in 2010 he received the Medal from the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano. From one of his ideas, two musical tales were written and recorded: "L'uomo del tamburo" and "Un tamburo un pa² brillo" by the composer Teresa Procaccini; the exclusive musical production dedicated to all percussion instruments. Since 1977, he has been teaching professor of percussion instruments; currently he is a teacher at the "L. D'Annunzio" Conservatory of Music in Pescara-Italy. He is invited in the juries of international competitions and in concerts and master classes in Europe. He is President in Italy of the PAS "Percussive Arts Society". At the 2007 International PASIC Convention in Ohio, he received an important recognition for his professional activity. Antonio Santangelo is a Balter Mallets, Zildjian and Vic Firth artist. His "Progressive Method for Snare Drum" is published and distributed by the American publisher HoneyRock.
