Evan Taylor

Independent, Loantaka Sound

My name is Evan Taylor. I began drumming at a young age; an imaginative age where anything could be a drum or a pair of drum sticks. I studied a little bit, played in youth orchestras and bands but more importantly with my "garage band" on the NYC and Brooklyn scene. I have toured with Bernie Worrell, Jimmy Destri, King Tuff, and The Chapin Sisters as well as many other very talented musicians. Nowadays I spend most of my time as a producer. What makes me tick is when the rest of the band doesn't understand how catastrophic is it to lose a key or clutch. I can't reiterate enough how there is nothing funny about that situation.

  • Most memorable Next-Level Performance

Every show is a victory and tragedy at some point in my opinion
  • What Drives Your Creativity?

Watching all musicians and the creative choices they make and you can't go wrong with getting to work on a beautiful song especially those heartbreaking ones. I will also take a compliment any day. I won't believe it but I'll appreciate the gesture.
  • Why do you choose Vic Firth?

I really like my GB4 gong mallet. I really love touring with gongs. They're the earth-shattering alternative to hitting several crashes. I also experiment with my other mallets, sticks, and brushes for textures, swells, or more articulated rhythmic figures on the gong.
