Alex Bailey was born in Kansas City, and began playing drums at the age of 5. In High School, Bailey was chosen to perform in the prestigious Gibson/Baldwin Grammy High School Jazz Band. After high school, he attended and graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. In 2015, Bailey joined legendary bassist Marcus Millers band, and currently tours extensively. In addition, recording his latest Grammy Nominated record, Laid Black. Alex also played on the soundtrack for the movie, œMarshall featuring actor Chadwick Boseman. Alex Bailey is also known for being an accomplished Bassist, Musical Director, and Producer.
Most memorable Next-Level PerformanceIt would be playing for Janelle Monae's unreleased CD launch party in Kansas City, KS. I played a drum solo during the band set before she sang, and gained a lot of respect from many musicians.
What Drives Your Creativity?Seeing musicians from the generations before me continue to create timeless music that inspires me to do the same.
Why do you choose Vic Firth?The X55A is like an extension of me. Since drumsticks are 'technically' the only thing drummers actually touch with their hands, it's important to choose a stick that doesn't make you think. For me, it's the X55A.
