Andy Wheelock is a Drummer, Percussionist, Composer, and Educator. Wheelock is an active performer and clinician touring nationally and abroad with tours in Japan, South Korea, Spain, and Costa Rica. In addition to working as a sideman with artists like Bill O’Connell, Ben Markley, Gonzalo Teppa, and Jordan Vanhemert, he is also a founding member of the Live Edge Trio, WHEE3TRIO, and Kewo Percussion Collective. Wheelock has had the honor of performing, touring, and recording with the likes of Steve Nelson, Gilad Hekselman, Ernie Watts, Bill O’Connell, Adam Birnbaum, Chuchito Valdés, Terell Stafford, Joel Frahm, Jorge Alabe, Alex Hahn, Jocelyn Gould, the Afro-Caribbean Jazz Collective, Craig Handy, SK Kakraba, Jorge Glem, Bobby Shew, Jorge Alaba, Henry Linarez, Bob Bowman, Ivan Trevino, and William Moersch.
As a composer and arranger, Wheelock writes regularly for his own recording projects as well as big bands, percussion ensembles, Samba Bateria’s, and Pan-Afro-Latin Ensembles. His latest record as a leader, In the Wheelhouse - The WHEE3TRIO with Gilad Hekselman, was released on the Origin record label and received outstanding reviews. As a clinician and adjudicator, Wheelock has been a guest artist at over 20 Universities around the U.S., Spain, Costa Rica, South Korea, and Japan.
Wheelock currently serves as the Director of Jazz Studies and Percussion Area Coordinator at the University of Wyoming where he directs the Wyoming Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combos, Samba Bateria, Pan-Afro-Latin Drumming group, and the UWYO Percussion Ensemble.
