Arthur Vint

Century Jazz Orchestra, University of Arizona, Independent

Drummer, composer, educator and general musical impresario Arthur Vint has been described as a ‘musical chameleon’ as he is able to shape-shift to meet the needs of any style of music and always does so with the right colors for the job. Equally adept at playing modern jazz, early jazz, big band, salsa, country, pop or rock, his drumming style is based around a strong sense of time and arrangement, leading the band from behind with creative grooves and textures.

Originally from Tucson, AZ, Arthur moved to New York City in 2007, where he became an in-demand jazz and session drummer, performing and recording regularly in the Tri-State area with bands such as Postmodern Jukebox, Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks, Mike Davis & The New Wonders, Scott Tixier, The Candy Shop Boys, Kelli Scarr, Zephaniah O'Hora, GaDaDu, Arthur Vint & Associates, among others.

Arthur appears on over 40 commercially released albums as a sideman and has three albums under his name available. His first two albums, “Through The Badlands” and “Death Rides A Horse” were released by Ropeadope Records. In 2024, Arthur founded his own record label, Desert Spoon Records and released the album “Copper State”, a rumination on the landscapes and folklore of Arizona.

Arthur returned to Tucson, AZ to open his own jazz club in February of 2022 called the Century Room, which is located inside the historic Hotel Congress. He now serves as the Century Room’s Artistic Director and presents over 500 bands a year. Arthur performs regularly at the club with his 17-piece Century Jazz Orchestra and backs up touring artists like Peter Bernstein, Troy Roberts, Ethan Iverson, Benny Benack III, and many others.

Since 2020,  Arthur has been on the jazz drum set professor at the University of Arizona School of Music.

  • Most Memorable Next-Level Performance?

My most memorable "next-level" performance was probably playing in Rio de Janeiro with Postmodern Jukebox in front of 4,000 people. Getting the chance to perform in Brazil was cool enough, but playing an extended drum solo on a Jumbotron for thousands of screaming fans took it to the next level!

  • What Drives Your Creativity?

I'm constantly listening to and learning from other musicians, both on records and on the bandstand. Getting to teach the next generation of drummers at the U ofA is also endlessly inspiring as my student's perspectives make me revaluate my own knowledge!

  • Why Do You Choose Vic Firth?

My first pair of drumsticks in 5th grade concert band were Vic Firth 2Bs! I've played Vic Firth ever since as they are most consistent and the longest lasting. Vic Firth sticks are the standard against which all other sticks are measured!
