Jan S. Mischon

SALTATIO MORTIS

With his band Saltatio Mortis, Jan S. Mischon has been performing on stages around the world for many years, playing in the smallest clubs as well as headlining some of the biggest festivals. He learned his craft through countless bands, ranging from rock to jazz, from heavy metal to punk and even classical music. Giving up was never an option, and along the way, he might have learned a thing or two.

It all started with the piano when he was very young. He discovered the drums at the age of 12 & he was totally hooked. From then on, he spent more time in his small rehearsal room than anywhere else. To this day, even with five #1 albums and several gold records under his belt, he's still surprised how it all worked out. All he had ever done was to really love making music.

Studying drums and getting a degree in music seemed like a good idea, so that's what he did. And he started teaching. Inspiring his students to love playing music more than fancy chops, guiding them along their individual paths and helping them achieve their goals.

As a musician, composer, and lyricist, Jan has contributed to many albums and songs. There have been times when he performed about 200 shows a year as a drummer, guitarist, pianist, or singer, while also teaching approx. 80 students a week. Sounds like a lot, right? But as they say: Find something you really love and you won't have to work a single day in your life.

Although, some things have changed over the years. First of all, there's definitely more of a focus right now, whether it's about practicing the instrument or writing songs, or even in terms of diet and fitness. It's no longer doing everything all at once, but rather doing the one thing and making sure it is good. That’s what he continues to work on and learn every single day.

Jan S. Mischon still plays drums, composes music and writes lyrics for Saltatio Mortis, shares his knowledge through online courses on his website and works as a voice actor and radio host.
