Joe McCarthy has led a diverse career spanning a multitude of genres in both performance and education. Joe is the founder/leader and drummer of The Latin Grammy Award Winning New York Afro Bop Alliance Big Band, spanning almost two decades with their seventh recording "Upwards" just released and worldwide recognition as one of the leading Afro Cuban Jazz Big Bands of our time. He spent 20 years with The United States Naval Academy Band, serving as Chief in Charge/Drummer of The Big Band and Principal Percussionist of The Wind Ensemble and has done extensive touring with Broadway shows. As an educator, Joe has held positions at Georgetown and George Mason University and has done clinics and masterclasses throughout the US and abroad.
