  • WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

One of the most memorable moments for me was when I recorded what was to be the last studio session that the late great guitarist Larry Coryell did. We had performed a trio gig the night before in Dublin, Ireland and the next day we were recording a bunch of jazz standards he loved to play and some new tunes that Larry had written for the session. The musical experience we had that day will always stay with me, Larry's influence on me unlocked another level to my playing and I continue to use the advice that he gave me both for my professional performances and to my students.

  • WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF DRUMMERS

My creativity has always been driven by trying to achieve another level of musical performance, whether it is through new compositions that I perform with my group or trying to include new rhythmic concepts into my performance. I am inspired by the jazz greats, like Tony Williams, Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Art Taylor, Jack de Johnette and Jon Christensen, but I am also a huge fan of of players from Brazil like Duduka de Fonseca and Paulo Braga. I try to look for inspiration from a wide range of musical styles and I really enjoy listening to the great drumming of Jorge Rossy, Mark Guiliana, Louis Cole and Nate Woods.

  • FAVORITE ZILDJIAN CYMBAL/COMBO

My favourite Vic Firth product is the Classic 7A Woodtip Drumstick, they are so reliable as they are well balanced and without fail they give me the perfect drum sound that I look for when performing or recording.
