Thomas Galliano

Independent

Born in 1983 in Nice, the young drummer always evolved in a universe rich with musical influences. His father, a guitarist, introduced him to the attractive world of rehearsals and concerts.

Early on, Thomas Galliano discovered the music of Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and with emotion, his master drummer Elvin Jones, whom he met during a concert at the Nice Jazz Festival.

It was a strong encounter, creating a profound connection. Elvin would offer him his own drumsticks, thus paving the way for him. Growing increasingly fascinated by the drums, he entered the Nice Conservatory at the age of seven.

It was there that he began studying classical percussion such as the snare drum, xylophone, and timpani with the eminent professor Jacques Carré. After completing his classical training, still insatiable for music, he joined the jazz department of the Nice Conservatory to study under drum professor Jean-Paul Ceccarelli.
After gaining maturity, he joined his father on stage, marking the beginning of his career. A few years later, Thomas was hired for a tour in Italy with the renowned saxophonist Paul Jeffrey, who had played in Thelonious Monk's quartet and with others like Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, and B.B. King. He also arranged some of Charles Mingus' records.
But one meeting would be particularly significant: while Thomas was playing at a concert, Roy Hargrove was present. From the side of the stage, the famous American trumpeter observed, encouraged, and complimented him on his playing.
For six years, Thomas performed numerous concerts there, sharing the stage with respectable musicians such as JD Allen, China, Roy Hargrove, Jean Michel Pilc, Antonio Farao, Rick Margitza, Dezron Douglas, Eric Legnini, Pierre De Bethmann, Eric Wyatt, Emanuele Cisi, Logan Richardson, Habib Faye, Ablaye Cissoko, Stacy Dillard, Benito Gonzalez, Ed Cherry,  Jacky Terrasson, and others.
