Enrique 'Bugs' Gonzalez

Los Lobos

I was born and raised in Monterrey, Maxico to a musical family where Mom (Vianey Valdez) sang rock & roll for a living and Dad (Enrique 'Monstruo' Gonzalez) worked in radio as a well-known DJ. I attended the local music conservatory at age 7 and took private drum lessons from the age of 10 until my late teens. I'm a founding member of Mexican alternative rock band 'Jumbo' (1997-2005), shortly after relocating to Los Angeles, CA, while becoming Musical Director for Mexican Pop Artist 'Aleks Syntek' (2007-2011). I'm currently drumming for East LA rock legends Los Lobos (2012-Present).

  • WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Los Lobos at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival 2013, performing Magic Sam's: 'I Just Got To Know' featuring Robert Cray. It was a once in a lifetime memorable set at Madison Square Garden, in NYC, sharing the stage with blues legends: Eric Clapton, Susan Tedeschi and Robert Cray.

  • WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF DRUMMERS

Listening to anything featuring my all-time favorite drummers: Buddy Rich, Tony Williams, Steve Gadd and Vinnie Colaiuta. Spending time at the practice room going over rhythmic possibilities that span the 45-year Los Lobos career music catalog.

  • FAVORITE ZILDJIAN CYMBAL/COMBO

I choose Vic Firth because they're simply the best. Vic Firth's stick arsenal offers me virtual limitless possibilities and all the flexibility I need in a drumstick.
