Catupecu Machu

My name is Nicolas Meardi, but everybody calls me Vikingo. I am an argentinian musician, borned in Mendoza in 1999. I was introduced to the world of music when I was around 8 years old. One day, I saw a street band performing and instantly fell in love with the drums. That was the moment my obsession with music grew so strong that I could never walk away from it.

This passion led me to play drums and explore different instruments, but I can definitely say that drums were my first love. From there, I went on to form several bands, experimenting with different genres — from original music to a tribute band for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Today, I’m on an incredible journey with Catupecu Machu — a band I’ve admired since I was very young, and now have the honor of being part of. With over 30 years of history and many albums that have become milestones in Argentine rock, it’s a true privilege to be playing drums for this legendary power trio.

Now, at 25 years old, I feel proud and grateful to be traveling through amazing places and stages, making music with a band that has been such a big part of my life and inspiration.

  • What Drives Your Creativity?

I find my creativity through emotion. If something awakens a feeling in me, it immediately becomes a source of inspiration. Music, for me, is a space where I can pour everything I am — every thought, every emotion, every bit of energy. When I give my all to the music, when I’m fully present and honest with what I’m expressing, inspiration seems to arrive naturally, as if it had been waiting for that exact moment to appear. A big part of my creative process also happens in the solitude I share with my instrument. In those quiet, intimate moments — just me and the drums — I often discover new layers of expression. There’s a kind of revelation that comes when you’re alone with your sound, free from pressure or expectations. Ideas flow more freely, and I connect deeply with my inner voice, letting it guide me through rhythms, textures, and emotions I didn’t even know were inside me. Through constant, intentional practice, I try to stay in tune with that emotional core. I imagine myself transmitting everything I feel through the music, and in that transmission, I find the most authentic and powerful version of my artistic expression. There’s also something very special that happens when I’m in sync with my bandmates. The energy shifts — it transforms. Inspiration becomes something shared, collective. Unique moments of creation emerge from that connection. The mutual listening, the trust, the shared commitment — all of it gives the music a different, deeper kind of power and life. When it comes to performing live, creativity and emotion completely overwhelm me. That’s when everything intensifies. You never really know what might happen when you step into that immense energy that the audience generates and shares. It’s unpredictable, powerful, and deeply inspiring. I surrender to that connection, and more often than not, it’s on stage where the most honest and transformative musical moments come to life.

  • Why Do You Choose Vic Firth?

I choose Vic Firth because of its wide variety of sticks, which allows me to find the comfort I need depending on the moment and what I choose to play. Beyond being a brand I’ve admired all my life, Vic Firth has always been present in my moments of inspiration and deep connection with the drums. I would say they are the direct link between the human element and the percussive instrument that is the drum set. Their presence has been part of my journey in the search for sound. Playing with Vic Firth gives me the confidence and peace of mind that I’m using the best — something that allows me to play with strength and intensity, without harming the instrument or my body.
