Robert 'Jake' Jacobs

Independent

I started drums when I saw Buddy Rich and Ringo Starr on the TV. I drove my parents crazy banging on everything until they realized I wanted to be a musician. I have been a Professional Musician since the age of 13. I love performing and teaching and Im grateful that I can be in a position of creating music every day. I have an extensive background... and because of this experience and seasoning, I feel I bring a fresh, energetic, dynamic, and passionate performance every time Im on stage, in the studio, Educating or performing live. I am an Artist Endorser of DW Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Remo Products, and Vic Firth.

Performing and/or recording with artists such as: Natalie Cole, Clarence Clemons, The Young Dubliners, Al Green, Solomon Burke, Three Dog Night , Disney Films, Sony PlayStation, etc. has given a huge crossover of styles, depth and foundation. I live by this philosophy that Hal Blaine taught me - "If you smile, you'll be around for awhile. If you frown... you won't be around."

  • Most memorable Next-Level Performance

I came to Los Angeles in 1983. My first session was with Natalie Cole and it was at this session when I realized that I was capable of recording for major artists, and just as importantly, it gave me the confidence and the foundation to believe in myself.
  • What Drives Your Creativity?

Drumming creates the foundation for people to feel the music. Music is the universal language and it’s the only vehicle that can allow people to escape their normal lives and focus on having a great time. This is not the only reason I love to create…but it brings immense happiness to me personally and collectively that happiness transfer to the listener.
  • Why do you choose Vic Firth?

I use various Vic Firth products for different styles of music, sounds, feel and balance. If I had to pick out one product that I use more than all of the others, it would be the Extreme 8D for those exact reasons.
