As soloist, clinician, orchestral timpanist-percussionist, conductor, and teacher, Dr. Marrs professional experience spans nearly 50 years. Principal orchestral positions include Louisville, Bolivia, and Costa Rica. Although experience covers four continents, the decade of the 1970s teaching and playing in Costa Rica represent a highlight of his career. Since 1985 Marrs has been teaching at the University of Maine. Administrative positions at UMaine include Chair of the Music Division and Associate Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Education. Stuart Marrs received his doctorate from Indiana University. In 2005, he authored the analytical DVD: Stuart Marrs on Elliott Carter: Eight Pieces for Four Timpani “ Performance and Analysis.
