Thomas was a toddler when he began using pots, pans, suitcases, and shoe boxes as drums. This was long before understanding the power of rhythm and the ability to touch peoples souls. The importance of using Vic Firths sticks for œCymbal Playing, making people dance, transporting the listener to a new realm is the core of Thomas musical approach. Thomas spends most of his time teaching in the university setting, sharing his passion of classic Jazz and the importance of swing to his students. He has worked with Percy Heath, Tom Browne, Fred Wesley, Jamey Aebersold, Branford Marsalis, Brandon Lee, and many others throughout his 30+ years of making music behind the drum set.

Most memorable Next-Level Performance
My “Next Level” moment happened while playing a concert with Eric Alexander and Cedar Walton. The band locked-in and became “one musical mind”. Everyone on stage and in the audience relished the experience of unity and swing. -
What Drives Your Creativity?
My creativity is driven by my university students. They have a “Life force” that requires adjusting and reevaluating of music, approach to playing, teaching, and priorities in life. -
Why do you choose Vic Firth?
I chose to play Vic Firth because they have always made consistent drum sticks. The feel and sound of their sticks are second to none! I am fortunate to play many styles of music regularly and Vic Firth has the right stick for every musical situation.
