Art Of Anarchy

I started playing drums at thirteen years old. My twin brother Jon Votta who is the other guitar player in Art Of Anarchy aside from Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal originally played bass and I played guitar. We couldn't find a drummer for the life of us. My brother asked how I felt about playing drums since we couldn't find a drummer. I told him it would be my pleasure. I honestly found drums to be a lot more fun than playing guitar. I enjoyed the physical aspect of it more. You have to get your whole body involved with playing the instrument. The guitar is just your two hands. In my teen years I enjoyed playing the local scene and in my 20's had a Top 40 charted radio single with a cover of "The Doors" song Love Her Madly with our band "Tyris". The band eventually broke up despite having a certain amount of national success. It all changed when "Art Of Anarchy was formed. My brother wanted to start a new band with our lifelong friend Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal who had a run playing with Guns N Roses. Bumblefoot loved the idea and the rest just started falling into place. It was the band that finally allowed us to do what we wanted without hearing any producers or record label execs telling us how we should sound and what we should do. Total freedom of expression. That's how I came up with the name Art Of Anarchy. I didn't want any rules or control over what this band wanted to do or express itself. I approach my drumming from the same angle. I'll put a blast beat in a slow ballad if it feels right and not think twice about it. Can't say that has happened yet. But never say never. Playing music gives me a voice and a way to express myself that no other thing in life has ever provided. I'm truly blessed by all the amazing experiences and lifelong memorize these creative experiences have taken me on.

  • Most memorable Next-Level Performance

Art Of Anarchy was playing a festival for the Rock Radio Station 98.1 FM in Charleston South Carolina. We had just finished playing a festival in Las Vegas the night before. We hadn't slept for close to 48 hours, traveled cross country with connecting flights and by some miracle made it to the stage on time for our set. The band threw down one of the best performances we've ever played despite all the obstacles we had to overcome. I knew at that moment no matter how crazy the circumstances are. Me and my Vic Firth gear will always be ready no matter what life throws our way.
  • What Drives Your Creativity?

I enjoy most meeting fans in person. Hearing their stories how Art Of Anarchy's music helped them through hard times or even saved their lives. Knowing people are alive today because of music is what it's all about and is the true drive of my creativity. Creativity is an emotion that comes from within and the fans are the ones who inspire me the most.
  • Why do you choose Vic Firth?

I've been an official endorser of Vic Firth drum sticks now for over twenty years and more then half my life. I can't picture using another stick company. The American Classic Metal Nylon has been my weapon of choice from day one. They've helped me deal out the most harsh and brutal beatings to my drums without ever letting me down. I love the extra length for more reach and the massive response I get from my cymbals and drums are unmatched. I can't picture my life without them.
